What is your present state-of-mind? My mind is calm because the path I have chosen is a well-meditated one. For this reason I kept postponing my resignation. Your aim? To make continued effort to take the society on a well organized path of development. Do you think you have lost something? People who think I have lost anything forget that to press forward on the ladder of development, you have to leave the lower steps behind. Is your political inexperience not a hurdle? A thinker also benefits from experiences of others. What people call politics, I do not consider it as a means of attaining power. It is a forceful medium of public service. People have today forgotten this fact. To enter higher politics, a person ought to be at least a corporator? I do not think so. Persons like Gandhi, Jai Prakash Narain and Lohia have never held a post, but still they have guided the political stream of the country. Political idol? Not any one. Political teacher? Not any one. When a worshiper undertakes any penance, God puts forward more tests of his endurance? I agree that people see lot of difficulties in fighting against the defects in the system. But if you consider this fight as your 'mission', these difficulties loose their significance. Happiness and sorrow are just states of mind and if you are mentally prepared to combat the difficulties, the path becomes easier. Optimism is generated by faith. Do you have faith in political life? Political life is a part of our Social life. If we are 'social', we have to be 'political'. Even if we do not want, we are always involved with political life, directly or indirectly. Your expectations from the political life? Society has given birth to 'Political state' in due course of time. To run the political state efficiently in order, democracy was developed. But with passage of time, democracy has become blighted by some defects like criminalisation. These defects have to be rectified. Will you be able to maintain decency and self-restraint in political life. Of course. These things are especially important in democracy. Because here politicians are judged by public, who is essentially peace loving. In India, violent revolutions have not attained any place in history. Even violent rulers like Ashoka the Great has to ultimately choose the path of non-violence. Difference between a politician and a bureaucrat? Politicians, while representing the people, make policies for good of the nation and the bureaucrats implement those policies. Your feelings during public functions? No doubt I have received a lot of respect at public functions, but this respect also reminds me of the huge expectations people are having from me, fulfilling which is a solemn responsibility. Any recent happy incident ? After resignation, such moral and financial support from the public has overwhelmed me. I can never forget how people have made me contest the elections from their small financial contributions. Some recent bad incidents ? A large part of the society is inflicted by the negative thought that there is very remote chance of any improvement. This feeling hurts me. During elections, people kept telling me that there is little you can do as an independent candidate. They forget the fact that if one Shailendra wins in this fashion, many-many more Shailendras are going to come forth. Your family legacy ? Never belie the faith of people. Can you express the root cause of sufferings. Unwillingness of people to take risks for their own better future. Whom do you consider 'alive' ? Optimist and ambitious people. These feelings towards our future fuels our present, and to me, only this is 'life'. Whom do you consider 'bonded' ? Working against your mental state and will of heart is being 'bonded'. Depth of outrage for rights ? We are always conscious for our rights but it also enjoins duties, to forget which, we cannot keep talking about our rights. Whatever is a right for you is a duty for somebody else. Present problem facing the country ? To empower our agriculture dominated economy in this age of liberalization and globalization. The vision behind 'Youth Brigade' and its motto ? To involve youth in constructive work for general good of the society and the country. To conduct medical camps for the deprived sections, to organize farmer's fairs, to conduct help camps during large public functions etc.
