Right to choose is fundamental to a person's contribution to the development of society. But in a system, so formed in the name of progress and development, this basic right is being subdued. The right to choose depends upon the availability of options.

In politics today, we have lost our basic right to choose in  mirth of options; all candidates and all parties come out to be the same. Similarly in the field of media - print or electronic,  a strong need can be felt of a publication unbiased by market pressures and cut-throat competition, unmoved from the path of true journalism.

Vikalp times is a sincere effort to fulfill this need. It cannot be overemphasized that disciplined by the impartial vision and strong determination of Shailendra Singh, Vikalp times is presenting an ideal similar to that presented by him through his life and actions.

Vikalp Times is committed toward providing meaningful and positive readable material of enduring importance for every section of the society, instead of providing sensational sellable articles. The articles are directed along following lines:

• Re-establishing the honour of traditions and cultural values by attempting to mould the cultural invasion by the developed countries suitably in order to keep our cultural values intact and at the same time absorb the good part of the cultural invasion.

• To mitigate the ill-effects of commercialization on our cultural values. Preserving the importance of family institution.

• To instill self-confidence in various sections of the society and to re-awaken national pride.

• Prompting the people towards realization of their social responsibilities and indicating ways to fulfill those responsibilities.

• Defining the drawbacks in the existing system and their root cause and suggesting improvements.

• To encourage people to adopt democratic means for a system change. To enlighten people about the revolutionary powers vested in their right to vote.

• To remind the people about the efficacy and importance of rural life.

• To provide useful directions regarding self-employment to farmers, un-employed youth and working women.

• To promote awareness about various governmental and non-governmental schemes for alleviation of living conditions in rural areas.

• To provide information regarding improvements in traditional crafts and arts in rural areas.

• To provide legal advise to enable common man to be aware of his legal rights.

• To give voice to public problems.
